Final Sunday Picks

Oooooo baby… lots of big games. MLB.TV is gonna be the order of the day in this house.

I would love to see the Brewers & Mets go to a sudden death playoff game tomorrow.

Ditto for Twins & White Sox the following day.

Thuhhhhh Yankees winnnnnn!

Watched the stadium farewell last night and enjoyed every minute of it. As a Jays fan, it would be traitorous of me to say I’m a Yankee fan, and despite some shots I take at them from time to time all in good fun, I can’t say  I’m a Yankee hater either. I respect their place in baseball.

With that being said, here are my top 10 favourite things I llike about the Yankees in no particular order.

1. Roll call from the bleachers – that’s cool

2. Sparky Lyle – The Bronx Zoo was the first baseball book I ever read. Loved it.

3. Tony Kubek – too young to have seen him play, but he was one of my favourite game analysts of all time. And “Sixty One” to this day is my favourite baseball book of all time

4. Michael Kay – Didn’t particularly like him at first, but the guy has grown on me

5. John Sterling – because of the title of this thread

6. Lou Gehrig – Everybody talks about The Babe, but IMO Lou was the greatest

7. The Billy Martin & Reggie Jackson show – was always entertaining

8. George Steinbrenner – If only more owners showed his commitment to winning at all costs

9. Monument Park – no description necessary

10. Derek Jeter – a class act

Congrats to the teams that have clinched & farewell to Yankee Stadium. Here’s hoping the fans don’t tear the place apart when the game is over.

Sorry Yankee Fans

Sorry Yankee Fans, but I just read this story online and lol’d….

Associated Press

NEW YORK – The New York Yankees’ season has gone so badly, the wife of team president Randy Levine taped bubble wrap around the TV remotes to keep the furniture from getting damaged

Yeah, Yeah, I know how many rings you guys have… but it still makes me laugh

More Sunday Picks

I have been afraid to blog the last week…. Jays were on a roll and didn’t want to jinx them!

Hats off to their inspired play of late but a sweep of the Red Sox was necessary to seriously entertain any idea of climbing back into the wild card race.  I’m starting to think that the Red Sox are going to repeat as World Series Champs. Hope the Rays prove me wrong.

The view from section 230

septower.jpgAnother entertaining game at the Rogers Centre tonight as the Jays keep rolling in the role of spoilers downing the Rays 6-4 for their 6th straight win.

Would have loved more of this kind of play earlier in the season, but hey, a win is a win so I shouldn’t complain,

Sat in section 230 tonight and some random thoughts:

– who was in charge of the roof tonight? It was threatening rain all evening so the roof was closed at game time.  Some genius decides to open the roof long enough for rain to fall in, then they have to close it again while the game is going on.

Didn’t matter much to me since I was underneath the overhang of the private boxes, but I’m sure the players must have been annoyed especially since the wind could have temporarily aided fly balls.

Other thoughts:

– why the boos for Eric Hinske? Sure, he underachieved in Toronto, but that’s old history. I’m happy for the guy now… he has decent numbers and a good shot at the playoffs this year

– was watching the out of town scoreboard all evening – Phils beats the Mets tonight at Shea. Another choke in the making?

– nice to see Joe Carter at the game tonight… decent ovation from the fans too

sepjoe.jpg

– have loved the throwback unis all season long, especially using the best logo the team has ever had.  I’m sick of the current black 3rd jerseys and the lack of “Blue” in front of Jays

Congrats to Doc on another great outing
